Kanellis Family Dentistry office manager scheduling an appointment for a new patientWe make every effort to provide the highest quality care––all while we treat you like our own family. We never pressure our patients into treatment they don't want or need, and we encourage you to take an active role in your oral health.

Your First Visit

The first time you visit our office, you’ll be greeted by name and offered a refreshment as you take a seat in our waiting room outfitted with soft chairs, comfortable couches, and television to keep you entertained. When it’s time for your appointment, you’ll be provided a tour of the practice as you’re walked to your private treatment room. We will discuss your health history, past dental experiences, and any anxieties you may have about dental care. To help us serve you best, we'll get to know any expectations and needs you may have for receiving treatment.

Complete Preventive Care

To allow time for your thorough preventive exam, please reserve approximately 90 minutes for your first visit with us. First, we will take a set of x-rays to provide a comprehensive view of your entire mouth, including the roots of your teeth and your jawbones. We’ll also use our high-tech iTero intraoral scanner to ensure we’re providing a complete assessment of your teeth and gums.

A periodontal exam will follow to evaluate your gum health and to screen for gum recession. If your gums have no swelling or deep pockets, we will continue with a preventive cleaning. Finally, Dr. Kanellis will determine whether you might need any type of restorative treatment, and take time to discuss your treatment options.

Total-Body Health Starts Here

If our team spots evidence of gum disease or inflammation, we may need to take a different approach. Before regular oral care, your gums need to be healthy, so if periodontal concerns do arise, on the day of your visit we’ll perform a full debridement and schedule a deep cleaning for another day. After all, your gums are the foundation of your healthy smile and your total-body health!

We encourage regular checkups for individuals age one and up. Regular checkups allow Dr. Kanellis and his team to:

  • Check for problems that you might not see or feel
  • Find early signs of decay
  • Treat oral health problems early, while they are still manageable

Regular preventive checkups include a thorough cleaning, polishing, and an oral exam by Dr. Kanellis. During your oral exam, we will evaluate the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue, and he’ll check your existing fillings and restorations because constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack.
